The story behind SpaceM, an online store for men's grooming needs
by Chief Alchemist a.k.a Wiley Chin - November 10, 2010 Posted: 7:17:37 PM EDT

I met Alan Gan  of SpaceM about 4 months ago. He told me he was born in Malaysia, raised in Singapore, studied in Australia and then worked in London as a banker.

That was before he quit to come home.

Alan Gan of SpaceM Online Store

He said he couldn't be a banker anymore, and he had a dream. He asked me whether I can help him setup an online business selling men's grooming products.

I have a great team at XIMNET and I have an e-commerce system, XTOPIA, the versatile and robust platform that can make his dream a reality. But I needed to know if this person sitting in front of me will be worth the effort.

I looked at him and tried to place him along the many people who had met and told me their dot com dreams. Dreamers, talkers, and so many other crazies. Alan exuded a different aura. He seemed focused, and while undoubtedly uncertain about what he was about to plunge into, he looked like somebody who will stick to something to make it happen. That was important to me.

And so I told him I would. And we worked out the fees and how he will pay me.

He then took a trip to London and convinced many of his suppliers to back him up. He didn't have the capital, he has no experience.

It was a coup!

And now here it is, the SpaceM online store! >>

I have a hunch. I believe SpaceM ( will be big. Very big.

Why? Because I believe more and more Asian men will start caring for their looks and how they project themselves.

Watch this site!

I know will.

Our web business software system, XTOPIA is here!
by Chief Alchemist a.k.a Wiley Chin - August 17, 2010 Posted: 4:44:51 PM EDT

I am extremely proud to say that, after working on our ideas on how to improve the way companies can do business better online, XIMNET has finally launched the product XTOPIA. We would like to call XTOPIA, an integrated online suite of business-ready software that is built by a team of dedicated Internet business practitioners to fast-track your website project.

It all started  some 5 years ago when we tried building our first Content Management System (CMS). We started with the Classic ASP version and progressed to the Microsoft .NET version two years later. Along the way, and many many clients later, we learned that the businesses need an integrated system that can sell, service and support their customers seamlessly.

It comprises of 5 core modules that form the backbone to support your Internet Business Strategy implementation and execution.

We will be doing rapid releases over the next 6-9 months to push the feature-sets to include sophisticated configurators that will allow businesses to totally blown the socks off their customers with 1st class customer service delivery.

Wish us luck!

The pain of self-prescribing and Web Design Agency
by Chief Alchemist a.k.a Wiley Chin - November 5, 2009 Posted: 3:33:27 PM EDT

As you know, I run an interactive agency (XIMNET MALAYSIA) with focus on web design, interactive marketing, multimedia development and software programming. I must tell you, one of the things about being in the web design business is, you just can't seem to spare time design a proper website for your own self. Which is what I've trying to do with my team. Each time when we get to a pretty solid idea, a client's project will steamroll over our lovely imagination.

Anyway, I realised that our Mootool site ( isn't quite delivering in terms of our SEO positioning, especially on Google. I haven't check others.

While we work on the new site, we did a quick fix for the site. So till then see you when I got the new site launched!

Come KL people whoever you are,

and admit that flood water around you have grown,

and accept it that one day you won’t make it back home

if you think Masjid Jamek is worth savin’

so you better learn to swim or you will sink in this tomb,

For our city, it’s time for a-changin’

Come bloggers and twitters who criticize with your pens

Just drink up your Aik-Cheong and lose sleep again

But don’t post too soon or we won’t see you again,

Still there’s no tellin which language they will be teachin’

For one day it’s this and another day that

For our kids’ lives, please bloody stop a-changin’

Come mothers and fathers throughout this land

Don’t stroll in the malls or just watch ASTRO,

You got your sons and daughters future to uphold

There’s a battle and it’s worth fightin’

Please stand up to be counted or it won’t matter again

For our dreams, please start a-changin’

Come posers and politicians, please heed our call

Don’t sleep in the Parliament, don’t smoke in the halls

Your mansions can be big but it’s your pledges we recall

It’s about time you just act and quit rot talkin’

We will haunt your conscience and we’ll dig  out your bones

For it’s now, we want the changin’

The votes has been cast, the curse it will last

The losers now might later get to laugh

The winners now can afford to act proud

But there’s no tellin how long they will be stayin

For t he first one now will later be the last,

For the time they are a changin

Took my team to Gopeng, Perak for a team-building adventure. Had so much fun I am aching all over now. We did jungle trekking, caving, night jungle walk, obstacles course and white water rafting on the final day.

A mighty tree
by Chief Alchemist a.k.a Wiley Chin - June 22, 2009 Posted: 5:47:20 PM EDT

I bought an ornamental tree from the Cold Storage supermarket downstairs. It looked very pretty and looked easy to cared for. I just nver realised it was a rubber tree until a colleague told me.

I grew up with rubber latex coursing my veins and I wasn't aware of a rubber tree sitting in my room.

Ornamental Rubber Tree
It sure doesn't look like the trees that bleed white when cut, does it?
